What makes VolkLibre! so special?
We take social networking to the next level – our members share a living connection and have concrete impact in the world around them. We created VolkLibre! to bring passionate people together to take action in the real world - locally. As counter-intuitive as it seems, we believe in appropriate use of technology; we love that we can use the internet to get folks out on their porches, taking painting workshops or arts tours, knitting together, playing music in living rooms, supporting mom and pop shops, drinking local beer, giving our neighbors money-saving tips and organizing for campaigns that affect us where we live. VolkLibre! is a tool to do exactly this...and so much more!
Our Mission
VolkLibre! empowers people in their pursuit of well-being and helps them create vibrant, sustainable and autonomous communities.
In response to President Obama's call to service and to provide an important community function relevant to our times, we have begun our VolkLibre! social network.
Unlike many other social networking sites, we are an online and real-life community empowering local economies and fostering a creative culture. Here we focus on local and independent business, the arts, environment, and sustainable living – all in a spirit of mutual support.
With our groups and forums, we provide ways for artists, writers, performers, sustainable entrepreneurs, crafters, students, homemakers and others to share information and collaborate on projects, incubate ideas, form purchasing co-ops and crafting clubs, participate in ride shares, barter, organize and announce events and more. Small businesses and those self-employed can share information on sustainable practices and business resources, as well as team up with other organizations for promotional events and other opportunities. We offer affordable advertising for individuals and independently owned businesses as a source of revenue for our organization. For the individual, it is a way for members to take action, to engage in discussions, form groups, organize campaigns, and to publish blogs and videos that are in line with our mission.
